The Best Bambino AMG, Bang for Buck ever! Merc’s A35 AMG pricing and specs revealed

The Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC will be the most value for money vehcile to wear the hallowed AMG badge when it arrives in Australia, with the German brand today confirming a starting price of $67,200 for its newest performance vehicle.

The A35 4MATIC, available in both hatch and sedan body styles, is designed to act as an entry point to the AMG range, slotting beneath the fire-breathing A45 S (310kW/500Nm) which will touch down in Australia next year.

At the A35’s core is a turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine, firing 225kW and 400Nm to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

That’s enough, to deliver a sprint to 100km/h of just 4.7 seconds, and promises the punchy AMG will push on to a limited top speed of 250km/h. Now Imagine what could happen if tuners were to tune the little monster slightly, or do track oriented versions with weight reduction.

Standard performance kit includes a RACE-START launch control system, and a thumping AMG exhaust that can dial up the bass via an automatic exhaust flap. AMG brakes and adaptive suspension round out the go-fast goodies, while the five drive modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual) tweak the engine, gearbox and suspension settings.

Australian-delivered vehicles will get the go-fast stuff as standard, as well as AMG exterior styling elements, 19-inch alloys, a lip spoiler and a twin-exit exhaust. Inside, expect Mercedes’ twin 10.25-inch screens that form a “widescreen” digital cockpit, controlled using the brand’s new MBUX interface. Leather seats (heated in front) and dual-zone climate also feature in the cabin.

The Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC will set you back $67,200 for the hatch, and $69,800 for the sedan, and will land in dealerships in September. A limited-run launch-edition vehicle, called the Edition 1, adds gold colour highlights outside, and a fancier interior treatment with aluminium trim elements. You also get performance seats, different alloys and the AMG aerodynamics pack. The Edition 1 adds $6990 to the sticker price, and is only available on the hatch.

To put that into perspective, the outgoing A45 AMG started at around $75,000.
