Toyota Fortuner 2020: Key upgrades across the range coming for HiLux-based SUV

The Toyota Fortuner will soon be updated for 2020, with the brand’s workhorse-based SUV to score the same critical safety updates that were applied to the HiLux earlier this year.

The changes will see Toyota’s safety suite applied as standard to the entire Fortuner family, seriously bumping up the SUV’s active safety offering.

It will mean forward collision warning with AEB (and pedestrian and cyclist detection) will be standard for the first time, as well active cruise and active lane departure warning with steering assistance and road-sign recognition.

It joins the existing safety offering, which includes a reversing camera with rear parking sensors, trailer-sway control and seven airbags.

It is thought that the model range will remain unchanged, with the Fortuner arriving in GX ( $44,590), GXL ($49,490) and Crusade ($56,990) trim levels. Toyota is yet to confirm if there are any pricing changes for the 2020 model year.

Also unchanged is the engine and gearbox combination, with the Fortuner to remain powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine good for 130kW and 450Nm. It’s fed through a six-speed automatic with power sent to all four wheels. 

There’ll still be seating for seven, too, and a braked towing capacity of 3.0 tonnes. 

Expect the Fortuner to be updated later this year, and watch this space for offical pricing and specification detail from Toyota.
