The Ford Ranger Raptor looks very good in Police colours

The South Wales Police department in the UK has taken delivery of a Ford Ranger Raptor, with the Blue Oval’s go-anywhere tough truck on trial in a place where its off-road abilities are bound to come in very handy.

Officially a trial for now, the Raptor gets the full police livery, an emergency light setup and siren, and is designed to chase crooks across the many muddy fields that dot Wales.

There’s no power tweaks, though, with the Raptor still home to Ford’s twin-turbo 2.0-litre diesel that produces  157kW and 500Nm. But the police in Wales aren’t chasing straight-line pace.

They’re more interested in the Ranger’s toughened off-road chops, courtesy of its Fox Racing shocks and four-whee-drive goodies, with Ford promising it will offer “more than enough to keep up with criminals making a getaway across gravel, mud, and sand”.

The only question now, of course, is when we’ll see the Ranger Raptor dress in Australian police colours?
