STOP DRIVING IMMEDIATELY: Australian car owners in danger!

The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has issued yet another Takata airbag “stop drive” warning, breaking down state-by-state how many vehicles it knows are on still the road with potentially fatal Takata airbags.

The FCAI says there are still hundreds of vehicles on Australia’s roads with the deadly Alpha airbag fitted.

“These are the worst of the worst” the Chamber’s chief executive, Tony Webber said. “They are high-risk and can kill vehicle drivers and occupants, any vehicle with critical Alpha or critical non-Alpha type airbags should not be driven at all.”

The most popular models with potentially deadly airbags fitted include the first-generation Toyota RAV4 (1997-1999), Honda Accord and CR-V (1998-2000), Mitsubishi Lancer, Mirage, and Pajero (1997-2000), and all variants of the E46 BMW 3 Series (1997-2000).

NSW

In New South Wales there are nearly 70,000 vehicles on the road in need of an urgent airbag recall, and of those 2146 are critical Alpha and non-Alpha type. The industry has already replaced 1.08 million airbags in NSW, covering 94 per cent of affected vehicles in the state.

Victoria

In Victoria there are nearly 68,000 vehicles on the road in need of an urgent airbag recall, and of those 2716 are of the critical Alpha and non-Alpha type. The industry has already replaced 925,000 faulty airbags in Victoria representing 93 per cent of affected vehicles in the state.

In Queensland there are nearly 39,200 vehicles on the road in need of an urgent airbag recall, and of those 1798 are of the critical Alpha and non-Alpha type. The industry has already replaced 743,000 faulty airbags in Queensland representing 95 per cent of affected vehicles in the state.
