SsangYong Korando 2020 pricing and spec confirmed: Long equipment list for Korean Mazda CX-5 rival

SsangYong’s crucial Korando mid-size SUV line-up will be heralded by two limited-edition, diesel-powered variants priced from $32,900 driveaway.

Kicking off the range is the front-drive ELX LE variant, while the top-spec all-wheel-drive Ultimate LE will set buyers back $39,990.

Both versions are powered by a Euro 6-compliant 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine outputting 100kW of power and 324Nm of torque, which is mated exclusively to a six-speed Aisin-sourced automatic transmission.

Fuel economy in the 1506kg ELX LE is rated at 5.7 litres per 100km, while carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are pegged at 151 grams per kilometre.

Comparatively, the 90kg-heavier Ultimate LE posts 6.3L/100km and 165g/km figures respectively.

Measuring 4450mm long, 1870mm wide, 1620mm tall and with a 2675mm wheelbase, the Korando is positioned to take on the likes of the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4.

As a result, the Korando’s boot can swallow 551 litres with the rear seats in place, which can expand up to 1248L with the second-row stowed.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, leather steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 8.0-inch multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six-speaker stereo, automatic wipers, LED tail-lights, and heated side mirrors.

SsangYong has not skimped on safety either, with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, front collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross-traffic alert, high-beam assist, driver attention alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera included at no extra cost.

Stepping up tot the Ultimate adds 19-inch wheels, a full-sized spare wheel, power adjustable leather seats, heated and cooled front pews, tyre pressure monitoring system, LED headlights, power tailgate, dual-zone climate control and a chrome-finished front grille.

Expect to see SsangYong expand its Korando line-up with petrol engine options down the line.

As with all new SsangYongs, the Korando comes with the brand’s seven-year warranty with roadside assist and service price menu.
