RECALL: More than 100,000 Mitsubishi Triton utes could “catch fire”

Mitsubishi Australia has been forced to recall 102,616 MQ- and MR-series Triton utes over a fire risk.

Affecting MY15-MY19 examples sold between February 3, 2015, and December 2, 2019, the recall involves the Triton’s towbar wiring harness, which is a genuine accessory fitted by Mitsubishi dealers.

Due to incorrect installation, the towbar wiring harness (where fitted) could allow liquids to come into contract with electrical circuits.

If this occurs, the towbar wiring harness and its surrounds could overheat, burn or catch fire, increasing the chance of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

Impacted owners will be contacted by Mitsubishi Australia in writing with instructions to book their vehicles into a preferred authorised service centre for a free-of-charge repair.
