New VW T-Cross 2020 pricing and spec confirmed: Small SUV to touch down in April

Volkswagen’s long-awaited T-Cross small SUV will finally hit Australian showrooms in April this year as the brand’s most affordable crossover, kicking off from $27,990 before on-road costs for the base 85TSI Life.

Standard equipment includes 16-inch wheels, air-conditioning, wireless smartphone charger, four USB ports, black roof rails, leather multi-function steering wheel, front foglights, automatic headlights and 8.0-inch multimedia system with app-connect functionality.

Safety-wise, the base T-Cross is fitted with a reversing camera, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver fatigue detection, parking sensors and low-pressure tyre indicator.

Buyers can also step up into the T-Cross 85TSI Style for $30,990, which gains 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, front sports seats and chrome exterior highlights.

The Style grade is also supplemented by adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams and rear cross-traffic alert.

Both 85TSI grades are powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, outputting 85kW of power and 200Nm to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

VW Australia will also introduce a punchier 110TSI Style powered by a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine in June, although pricing for the flagship grade is yet to be confirmed.

Adding to the equipment in the 85TSI Style, the 110TSI Style adds 18-inch wheels, dark-tinted rear and rear-side windows, gloss-black door mirrors and a unique grey interior.

Three options packages will also be made available to T-Cross customers, kicking off with the $1200 ‘Driver Assistance’ bundle open to the 85TSI Life that adds the extra safety gear found in the 85TSI Life.

A ‘Sound and Vision’ option will add $1900 to the price of any T-Cross, and adds a digital cockpit, satellite navigation and a 300-watt premium sound system.

Finally, the ‘R-Line’ package (available only on the 85TSI and 110TSI style grades for $2500 and $1900 respectively) bundles 18-inch wheels, dark body accents, aluminium pedals, unique cloth upholstery and R-line scuff plates.
