New VW Golf R Final Edition 2020 pricing and specs confirmed: Unique colours to mark end of Mark 7.5 hot hatch

Volkswagen Australia will see out the Mark 7.5 Golf R with a Final Edition variant, which is limited to just 450 units, and sports a number of cosmetic and equipment enhancements.

Priced from $57,990 before on-road costs and hitting local showrooms in May, 150 examples of the Final Edition will be made available in three unique, hand-painted colours – Victory Blue, Green metallic (a homage to the discontinued Scirocco R) and Violet Touch.

The bespoke colour option will incur a $300 cost however, while the rest of the Final Editions will be offered in Pure White, Lapiz Blue and Deep Black at no extra charge.

Aside from the colours, the Final Edition also gains 19-inch black wheels, gloss-black side mirrors, Nappa leather upholstery, uprated Dynaudio sound system and variant-specific badging.

Carryover equipment from the Golf R includes heated front seats, electronically adjustable driver’s pew, LED headlights, bodykit, and 9.2-inch multimedia touchscreen with satellite navigation and voice control.

Aside from the colour, the only option available on the Final Edition is a panoramic glass sunroof for $1900.

The standard Golf R will also continue to be made available alongside the Final Edition grade for $55,490, with both versions sharing a 213kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Like all new Volkswagen models, the Golf R Final Edition comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

Volkswagen’s new-generation Golf broke cover in October last year, and is due for a local market introduction in late 2020 alongside the go-fast GTI version that is scheduled for a reveal at the Geneva motor show.

The range-topping R however, is expected to be shown around the middle of 2020, placing its Australian-market introduction sometime in 2021.
