New Volkswagen Touareg 2020 pricing and spec detailed: Limited-run Adventure grade gives large luxury SUV off-road edge

Volkswagen Australia will resurrect the Touareg Adventure nameplate, which was last available in 2017, with a new special-edition large SUV landing in local showrooms in August.

Limited to just 150 units, the Touareg Adventure is priced from $90,990 before on-road costs, $4200 pricier than the 190TDI Premium grade upon which it is based, but also scores a number of equipment additions to justify the rise.

The headline changes are focused on getting the Touareg off the beaten path, with Gravel and Sand settings added to the off-road drive mode, beefed up underbody protection and a 15-litre larger (90L) fuel tank.

Passengers will be riding in styling though thanks to a ‘Savona’ leather interior, available in either beige or brown, as well as open-pore ash wood trim for the dashboard and doors.

A tyre pressure monitoring system is also added, which will display data from the rubber mounted onto the 19-inch ‘Esperance’ alloy wheels (down from the donor car’s 20-inch components) on the multimedia system.

Four-wheel steering will also make the Touareg easier to manoeuvre at low speeds and more stable at high speeds, while a surround-view monitor, park assist plus and automatic reverse braking is also added.

Carryover equipment includes front air/rear multi-link suspension, 9.2-inch multimedia touchscreen, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charger, powered tailgate, matrix LED headlights, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring.

The same 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 engine also carries over, which outputs 190kW/600Nm to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Options on the Touareg Adventure include a $8000 Innovision Package, and two different Adventure Packages that both include a tow bar.
