New Toyota Yaris GR 2021 not aggro enough? Optional extras could turn it into the ULTIMATE hot hatch

Toyota’s Yaris GR might already be the proverbial Mr Hyde to the standard Yaris’ Dr Jekyll, but buyers can dial up the aggression to 11 thanks to a new range of Gazoo Racing addons.

Revealed for the Japanese market, the exterior enhancements include a front splitter, side skirt extensions, and new rear bumper with a quad-exit sports muffler – priced at ¥66,000 ($A853), ¥58,300 ($A754) and ¥227,000 ($A2934) respectively.

It is unclear if these exterior components will improve aerodynamics or the exhaust note of the hotly-anticipated Yaris GR, but a front strut tower bar is available for ¥33,594 ($A434) to better handling performance.

Cosmetic accessories are also listed on the Gazoo Racing website, including a body stripe decal, carbon-fibre number plate frame, GR wheel valve caps, branded boot luggage mat and carbon dashboard inserts, ranging in price from ¥3300 ($A47) to ¥29,700 ($A384).

Australia pricing has yet to be revealed for the Yaris GR, but using New Zealand prices as an indicator, speculation points to a circa-$40,000 entry point.

Though diminutive in size, the Yaris GR wears a bespoke three-door body with blistered wheelarches to denote its all-wheel drivetrain.

Under the bonnet is a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine, punching out an incredible 200kW/370Nm through a six-speed manual gearbox, to keep pace against the likes of the Hyundai i30 N, VW Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST.

The first Yaris GR cars should touch down in local showrooms before the end of 2020.
