New Suzuki Ignis 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Prices up for tiny Hyundai Venue rival

The facelifted 2020 Suzuki Ignis range is now on sale, with prices up substantially despite little-to-no spec changes for the tiny crossover SUV.

The Ignis now sports a more rugged look thanks to more aggressive bumpers front and rear, a Jimny-inspired grille treatment, and additional black plastic body cladding to help it live up to the notion of being “an ultra compact, and an SUV”. 

The updated SuzukI Ignis 2020 line-up remains a two-strong offer, with the entry-level GL model opening the line-up, priced at $17,990 plus on-road costs for the manual ($1300 more than before), or $18,990 MSRP for the automatic (also up $1300). There are some key spec differences between the two models, including the fact the GL is a five-seat model, while the GLX has four seats – but has a sliding second row to allow better boot space if needed.

In terms of standard inclusions, the GL runs 15-inch steel wheels, halogen headlights, cloth interior trim, a leather-lined steering wheel, manual air-conditioning, a 7.0-inch touchscreen media system with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, and a four speaker sound system. It has a 60:40 split-fold rear seat, with 271 litres of cargo capacity.

The GLX gains 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights and dusk sensing auto-on function, single-zone climate control, keyless entry and push-button start, and the four-seat layout with a 50:50 split-fold rear seat and 264L of boot space (when in their rearmost position). 

The Ignis range is equipped with a reversing camera, stability and traction control, ABS and six airbags (dual front, front side and full-length curtain). Sadly, this model update has not seen the inclusion of any of the active safety features you might want – there’s no auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert or rear AEB.

Both models carry over the existing 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 66kW of power and 120Nm of torque. The GL has a five-speed manual available with the option of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) auto, while the GLX is CVT auto only. 

Combined cycle claimed fuel consumption remains unchanged at 4.7 litres per 100 kilometres for the manual, and 4.9L/100km for the auto. 

Suzuki backs its cars with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, and there is five years of capped price servicing available for the Ignis, with intervals every 12 months/15,000km.

There are new, more adventure-focused colour options available for the Ignis as part of this update, including Khaki Pearl Metallic. The hero Flame Orange and Neon Blue hues are gone. Premium paint adds $595 to the price, and there’s only one non-premium option.
