New Porsche 718 Cayman, Boxster 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Toyota Supra, BMW Z4 rivals get huge price cuts

Porsche Australia has surprised and delighted buyers by announcing huge price cuts for the 718 sports-car range, covering both the Cayman coupe and Boxster convertible.

The unnamed entry-level variants of the Cayman and Boxster have had their pricing reduced by $2900, to $113,100 and $115,900 plus on-road costs respectively.

While that is a significant change, more so is the $10,700 decrease the Cayman and Boxster’s S versions have been dealt, with their prices dropping to $135,500 and $138,300 respectively.

Meanwhile, the recently introduced GTS 4.0 variants of the Cayman and Boxster have been given $400 pricing cuts, to $172,000 and $174,800 respectively, thanks to the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold being raised by $1215 at the start of the new financial year.

The same is also true of the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder flagships, which now charge $206,600 and $196,800 respectively. It’s worth noting they costed $12,200 more than they do now prior to their showroom arrival in February.

And the good news gets even better for buyers, with blind-spot monitoring and keyless entry and start now standard across the range (excluding Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder).

For reference, the unnamed entry-level versions are powered by a 220kW/380Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, while S variants have a 257kW/420Nm 2.5-litre unit.

The rest of the mid-mounted 718 line-up uses a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat six-cylinder engine, which produces either 294kW/420Nm (GTS 4.0) or 309kW/420Nm (Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder).

The Toyota Supra and BMW Z4 rivals are fitted with a six-speed manual as standard, while a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic remains a $5090 option for the unnamed entry-level and S versions.
