New Mini Countryman JCW 2021 detailed: Updated performance small SUV arrives to challenge Mercedes-AMG GLA35
Mini has revealed an update for its performance-oriented Countryman John Cooper Works (JCW) small SUV, which is set to arrive in Australia towards the end of 2020.
Among the updated features for the JCW are a refreshed front grille treatment, a new sports exhaust system, a digital instrument cluster, and an updated multimedia suite.
The JCW’s performance cred comes from its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 225kW/450Nm, placing it squarely in competition with Mercedes-AMG’s GLA35 small SUV (225kW/400Nm). The JCW can sprint from 0-100km/h in a claimed 5.1 seconds and will consume as low as 6.9L/100km, according to the brand’s ‘preliminary’ figures. It will maintain the same eight-speed ZF torque converter automatic and ‘All4’ all-wheel-drive system as the outgoing car.
However, it appears the no-cost manual transmission option has been dropped for 2021.
Other minor updates include redesigned LED light clusters both front and rear, as well as reorganised interior controls and finishes.
The updated JCW is scheduled to arrive in Q4 of 2020 for a 2021 model year.
