Mercedes-Benz Australia has launched two new hot variants of its first-generation A-Class small sedan, the front- and all-wheel drive A250, with first deliveries due from later this month.

Both A250s are powered by a 165kW/350Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, which is exclusively mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The FWD version comes with black 18-inch alloy wheels and chrome dual exhaust tailpipes.

Inside, a 10.25-inch touchscreen MBUX multimedia system, satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, DAB+ digital radio, a 225W sound system with nine speakers, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charge and keyless start feature.

The A250 pair slots in between the entry-level A180 ($46,200) and A200 ($50,900), and flagship AMG A35 ($72,500) in the Audi A3-rivalling A-Class sedan line-up.
