New Mazda 100th Anniversary Special Edition pricing and specs detailed: $1500 jump for unique Mazda 3, CX-5, MX-5 models

Mazda Australia has confirmed only 700 units of its 100th Anniversary Special Edition vehicles will be available locally, down from the initial 1000-unit figure reported by CarsGuide.

As before however, the CX-5 mid-size SUV will be the highest volume model, with 250 units available at a starting price of $52,330 before on-road costs – making it $1500 pricier the 170kW/420Nm 2.5-litre turbo-petrol Akera AWD upon which it is based.

Mazda’s other SUVs – the CX-9, CX-30, CX-3 and CX-8 – will also gain the special-edition treatment, though availability will be limited to 110, 100, 70 and 30 units.

Only pricing for the CX-8 100th Anniversary Special Edition has been revealed though, starting from $66,940 – $1500 pricier than the 140kW/450Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel Asaki AWD range topper.

However, if the rest of the SUV range follows suit, expect to pay a $1500 premium over the top grade of each respective model, meaning the 170kW/420Nm 2.5-litre turbo-petrol CX-9 will be $70,803 and the 110kW/195Nm 2.0-litre petrol CX-3 will be $39,450.

CarsGuide understands that the 100th Anniversary CX-30 however, will be based off the front-drive 114kW/200Nm 2.0-litre G20 Astina, putting its expected price at $40,490, instead of the top-spec G25 Astina AWD.

Mazda’s passenger cars will also be given the special-edition treatment, starting with just 20 Mazda2 light cars, likely to be priced $1500 above the G15 GT at $27,490.

For the Mazda3, 25 sedans and 55 hatchbacks will be made available, both priced at $40,090 ($1500 more expensive than the G25 Astina grade), while the Mazda6 100th Anniversary Special Edition will be limited to 15 and five units for the sedan and wagon respectively, priced at $51,390 and $52,690 each (both $1500 more than the top-spec Atenza).

Finally, just 20 MX-5s will be on offer, split equally between soft-top and RF body styles, priced at $45,320 and $49,400 respectively.

The 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5s are actually cheaper than the top-spec full-time counterparts however, which are automatic 2.0-litre GT grades, but the former will be available exclusively with a manual gearbox.

CarsGuide broke the story in March that Mazda would be serving up limited-run versions of its cars for its 100th anniversary this year.

Specification will mirror the top-spec donor cars, however all 100th Anniversary Special Edition models will be finished in a ‘Snowflake White Pearl Mica’ exterior colour, and wear bespoke badging and hubcaps.

Inside, all limited-run cars will sport leather seats, floor mats and carpet finished in burgundy, as well as headrests and a key fob embossed with a 100th anniversary logo.
