New Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Two-door returns to take fight to Suzuki Jimny

Jeep Australia has announced it will bring back the sought-after Wrangler two-door in high-spec Rubicon trim, but in a strictly-limited release of 40 cars.

It is the first time Jeep has offered the short wheelbase two-door in Australia in Rubicon form on the latest ‘JL’ underpinnings, expanding the body style from the entry-level Overland.

The two door returns as part of the “first” (clearly implying more will follow) run of JL special editions to hit Australia’s shores.

The single Rubicon Recon spec will also be available on 60 units of the four-door Unlimited version, for a total of 100 special-edition cars.

The limited Rubicon Recon will include 17-inch wheels, ‘distinctive’ exterior detailing including a sticker pack, black grille and matte black hood, a new steel front bumper with recovery hoop, and ‘tailgate reinforcement system’.

Inside there is red contrast seat belts, ‘premium wrapped’ instrument panel with matching red stitching, leather seat trim, as well as heated front seats and steering wheel. The boot in four door versions has a ‘rail management system’ as standard.

Unique interior and exterior highlights join a suite of otherwise-optional extras for the Rubicon Recon.

Options for the Rubicon Recon include the ‘Recon Premium Package’ ($3000) with three-piece hard top roof, as well as body coloured fender flares on top of six premium paint options ($745, with the standard black or white being free). 

The Rubicon Recon is available exclusively with the 3.6-litre petrol V6 (209kW/347Nm) in automatic.

The two door wears a $66,950 before on-road costs price (representing a $7500 jump over the existing two-door Overland), while the four-door version wears a $71,450 pricetag (representing a $6000 jump over the existing four-door Rubicon).
