New Hyundai Kona 2021 to get Kia Seltos tech upgrade

The facelifted Hyundai Kona 2021 model due here next year is set to adopt the same interior media tech as its sibling model, the Kia Seltos.

The updated Kona model – which is expected to see cosmetic, tech and powertrain adjustments – will also include the rollout of a new 10.25-inch touchscreen media screen in the cabin, replacing the 7.0-inch unit in the base model car and the 8.0-inch screen in high-grade variants.

It’s unclear whether the facelifted Kona will be fitted with the big screen across all variants, or if it will follow a similar plan as the Seltos, which has an 8.0-inch screen in the entry-level S model, and the larger 10.25-inch screen in the Sport, Sport+ and GT-Line variants.

The new 10.25-inch screen includes an entirely new menu layout, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, sat nav and DAB digital radio.

That screen will also be used in the new-look facelifted i30 hatchback, and the new-generation i30 sedan, which is due to replace the Elantra. Both of those models are set to arrive here later in 2020.

It is worth noting, though, the bigger screen has already been rolled out for 2020 Hyundai Kona Electric models, with both the Elite ($60,140) and Highlander ($64,640) adopting the new media screen.

The same screen was rolled out on the facelifted Hyundai Ioniq small car range late in 2019.
