New Hyundai Kona 2020 pricing and spec detailed: Higher price for Mazda CX-30 rival

Hyundai’s Kona small SUV has just gotten a little more expensive with prices up as much as $300 across the 10-variant crossover line-up.

The price increase comes due to the weakening Australian dollar, but specification carries over as before.

As a result, the range now kicks off at $24,300 (+$300) before on-road costs for the base Go grade in front-wheel-drive (FWD) form.

FWD versions of the Active, Elite and Highlander are also up $300 to $25,800, $30,300 and $36,300 respectively, with all aforementioned Konas powered by a 110kW/180Nm 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

An all-wheel-drive (AWD) option is also available to each grade, which also swaps out the drivetrain for a 130kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, for an additional $3500.

Sitting atop the Kona line-up is the FWD Electric Elite and Electric Highlander, which both jump $150 to $60,140 and $64,640 respectively.

The Kona Electric uses a 150kW/395Nm electric motor to drive the front wheels, and sports a 64kWh lithium-ion battery for an emissions-free driving range of up to 449km.

Standard equipment in the Kona range includes 16-inch steel wheels, LED daytime running lights, rear spoiler and a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with smartphone mirroring.

Safety wise, all Konas get autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, reversing camera, tyre pressure monitoring and six airbags.

Moving up to the Active, buyers gain 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, leather steering wheel and shifter, rear-seat fold-down armrest, and an 8.0-inch multimedia system with satellite navigation and digital radio.

Elite grades add leather-appointed seats, climate control, 17-inch wheels, front foglights, carbon-grey grille and push-button start, as well as adaptive cruise control.

Finally, the flagship Highlander gain remote vehicle services through Hyundai’s Auto Link Premium service, which embeds a sim card into the Kona that enables starting the engine and adjusting climate control settings from your phone.
