New Honda HR-V 2020 pricing and spec: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto added to Hyundai Kona rival

The Honda HR-V small SUV has received a minor update for 2020 (MY21), following big changes to Honda’s business model that leaves some future cars in doubt.

Headlining the HR-V’s new features is an overhauled multimedia system. Replacing the dated system in the existing car is a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen finally with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as voice recognition control and dual USB ports.

The new system will add industry-standard connectivity tech to the HR-V. The new system will add industry-standard connectivity tech to the HR-V.

This system will maintain Honda’s signature LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring system on the VTi-S, RS, and VTi-LX grades. Honda Australia has advised it is looking into offering the new multimedia screen as a dealer-fit accessory to owners of existing HR-V models.

The new system will be standard in every HR-V variant, and Honda Australia now also includes premium paints in the MSRP of the VTi-S, RS, and VTi-LX.

The VTi and RS grades have jumped by $500 in price, while the VTi-S and VTi-LX have jumped more significantly by $1150.

Being that it is based on the Jazz light car, the HR-V should – in theory -be the next vehicle in Honda’s lineup to receive an all-new overhaul. However, little information on when that reveal is due has come out of the brand to date.

Honda Australia is looking into whether it can offer the new media system as a dealer accessory retrofit for older cars. Honda Australia is looking into whether it can offer the new media system as a dealer accessory retrofit for older cars.

Honda’s recent business model issues, culminating in a scaling back of the brand’s local operation has cast doubt on future models, as the high safety and tech specification now demanded of Australian consumers means the brand is having trouble sourcing cars for our market from its Thai manufacturing plant.

This has resulted in Australia already missing out on new versions of the Jazz, City, and hybrid CR-V.
