New Honda Accord 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Toyota Camry rival now costs more to buy

A little over six months after its launch, Honda Australia has increased the 10th-generation Accord mid-size sedan’s pricing by up to $1500.

When the new Accord arrived in mid-December, it did so as a 2019 model (MY19), which will be replaced by the 2021 model (MY21) next month.

Despite the big change in model years, no adjustments have been made to the Accord’s standard specification, with it continuing to be offered in a single flagship grade, dubbed VTi-LX.

A Honda Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide the Toyota Camry rival’s price rises were instead prompted by “current market conditions, competitor movement and exchange-rate pressures”.

As before, the Accord is available with two powertrain options: petrol and hybrid. The former has gone up $1000, to $48,990 plus on-road costs, while the latter has jumped $1500, to $51,990.

The petrol variant is powered by a 140kW/260Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the 158kW/315Nm hybrid version combines a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated unit running on the Atkinson cycle with two electric motors.

Either way, the Accord is exclusively front-wheel drive and mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Fuel consumption on the combined-cycle test (ADR 81/02) is 6.5 litres per 100 kilometres for the petrol and 4.3L/100km for the hybrid, while claimed carbon dioxide emissions are 149 grams per kilometre and 98g/km respectively.

Standard equipment includes three drive modes (Eco, Normal and Sport), 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights, front foglights and tail-lights.

Inside, an 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 7.0-inch multi-function display, a 6.0-inch head-up display, wireless smartphone charging, a sports steering wheel with paddle-shifters, and a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat feature.

Advanced driver-assist systems extend to front and rear autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, driver attention alert, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring, high-beam assist, park assist, surround-view cameras and front and rear parking sensors.

Boot space is 570L irrespective of the chosen variant, with the hybrid’s battery located underneath its rear seats, ensuring cargo capacity isn’t reduced.

Four paintwork options are available (Platinum White, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel and Crystal Black) for both versions, while the hybrid also has the option of Passion Red.
