New Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2020 detailed: HSV’s V8 tough truck is coming for your Ram!

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has confirmed the new-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pick-up will go on sale in Australia next month.

While pricing for the locally remanufactured Silverado 1500 is yet to be released, HSV has released its specification, with only the LTZ Premium Edition to be offered from launch.

The mid-range variant will be powered by a 313kW/624Nm 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 petrol engines, which will be mated to a 10-speed torque-converter automatic transmission that sends drive to all four wheels.

Comparatively, the rivalling Ram 1500’s 5.7-litre unit concedes 22kW/68Nm, although both pick-ups have a maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg.

Speaking of towing, HSV will offer an Advanced Trailering Package with a reversing camera view that’s focused on hitching up a trailer, an integrated trailer brake controller and trailer theft alert, among other features.

The Silverado 1500 will initially be offered in a single specification, dubbed LTZ Premium Edition.

Utility will also be aided by a spray-on liner for the tub, which will feature 12 tie-down points as standard and be accessed via a power-operated tailgate.

Standard equipment will also include a low-range transfer case, a rear differential lock, polished 20-inch alloy wheels, 275/60 all-terrain tyres, disc brakes, LED headlights, daytime running lights, foglights and tail-lights; skid plates, power-folding side mirrors with heating and puddle lights, and side steps.

Inside, buyers will find a power-operated sunroof, an 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a seven-speaker Bose sound system, a 15.0-inch head-up display, a 4.2-inch multi-function display, wireless smartphone charging, keyless entry and start, heated front and rear seats, 10-way power-adjustable front seats with cooling, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and perforated Jet Black leather-appointed upholstery.

Heated and cooled front seats? Check. A 15.0-inch head-up display? Check. And the list goes on…

Advanced driver-assist systems will extend to autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, tyre pressure monitoring and hill-descent control.

HSV will offer several options for the Silverado 1500, including locally tuned suspension, a unique exhaust system and a performance air box. Nine paintwork options will also be available.

While the Silverado 1500 will be sold via HSV’s 65-strong dealer network, its makeup will likely change in the wake of Holden’s recently announced exit from the Australian market, especially if the company is tapped to exclusively represent General Motors (GM).
