New BMW M2 CS 2020 pricing and specs detailed: Limited-edition hardcore coupe rockets in

The BMW M2 CS is set to be the most hardcore version of the 2 Series coupe to date, with just 2200 examples to be sold globally.

Australia is in line to receive an unverified percentage of those vehicles in the second half of 2020 – and it will cost $139,900 plus on-road costs.

The BMW M2 CS will get the same engine that is usually reserved for the M3 and M4 Competition models, with a stonking 331kW and 550Nm from the in-line six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.

Those outputs position the M2 CS with 29kW more than the M2 Competition, and it comes with six-speed manual as standard (the first time a BMW CS model has been offered as such) with a 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds. The available seven-speed dual-clutch auto will be the faster option, with a claimed 4.0sec 0-100 time (it weighs more, too – 1575kg vs 1550kg for the manual).

The M2 CS also gets the standard-fit M Driver’s package, boosting the top speed to 280km/h. It also has an Active M differential (electronically-controlled limited slip diff), adaptive LED headlights and tyre pressure monitoring.

The M2 CS adopts a smattering of carbon-fibre elements, with plenty of exterior panels made of the lightweight, high-strength material, including the bonnet (which gets a bigger power bulge), front splitter, mirrors, roof turret, rear boot spoiler and diffuser, and even the centre console in the cabin is carbon. There’s a new exhaust system fitted, and a new adaptive suspension system will also be fitted as standard.

The interior also adopts the same front seats as the M4 CS, and there is Alcantara and full leather ‘Merino’ trim as well. The media system includes BMW ConnectedDrive, BMW Navigation System Professional, as well as Apple CarPlay (but not Android Auto), and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming.

It will be available with a choice of two wheel colours for the M light-alloy 19-inch rims – black or gold – and customers who intend to spend a lot of time on the track might want to opt for the Michelin Cup 2 tyres, which are available from the factory.
