Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2020 pricing and spec confirmed: LS grade now available with AWD

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has applied a light model-year update to its Eclipse Cross small SUV, with some minor changes to specification and the introduction of a new variant.

The mid-spec LS grade, previously only offered with front-wheel drive, has now been expanded with the option of Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which can be had for a $2500 premium over the FWD version.

The S-AWC system features active yaw control, which regulates the brakes and power steering to control torque split between the left and right wheels, which in turn aids handling both through corners and in a straight line.

Top-spec Exceed variants score revised front door trims with illumination and a black interior headlining, while the special Black Edition adds rain-sensing wipers, dusk-sensing headlights, foglights, forward collision mitigation and high-beam assist.

The Exceed and Black Edition variants have gone up in price by $200, while the rest of the range carries over unchanged.

The Black Edition is available in Starlight, Black, Red Diamond and Titanium paint colours, while the rest of the range also include White, Sterling Silver, and Lightning Blue. Metallic and pearlescent hues ask an extra $690 (free on Black Edition) while prestige paint costs $890 ($300 on Black Edition).

MMAL deputy director for marketing and operations Derek McIlroy said the addition of an AWD LS was thanks to customer demand.

“We are listening to our customers and they wanted a more affordable all-wheel drive, which is why we added S-AWC to the LS. This year, we’re pleased to be able to deliver this increased capability,” he said.

Through the first eight months of the year, Mitsubishi has registered 5049 sales of the Eclipse Cross – an impressive 9.7 per cent improvement over the same period last year.
