Kia Sportage 2020 pricing and specs confirmed

Kia’s Sportage mid-size SUV has undergone some minor changes for the 2020 model year, including a new set of nameplates, manual variants and slightly increased standard specification.

The new Sportage carries range-wide driveaway price tags spanning from $28,990 for the base S manual to $49,490 for the top-spec GT-Line all-wheel-drive diesel. Meanwhile, Kia has renamed the two mid-grade variants along with a slight price adjustment.

The three drivetrain choices remain the same, a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol able to make 114kW/192Nm, a 2.0-litre turbo diesel which capable of 136kW/400Nm and a 2.4-litre petrol exclusive to the GT-Line which makes 135kW/237Nm. All 2.0L petrol variants are front-wheel drive, while 2.0L diesel variants and the 2.4-litre petrol GT-Line are all-wheel drive.

The GT-Line remains all-wheel drive only via a 2.4L petrol or 2.0L diesel engines.

Standard equipment on the entry-level S includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs with halogen headlights, auto rain-sensing windscreen wipers, leather steering wheel, a 3.5-inch TFT screen in the dash, a 7.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, dual-zone climate controls, cloth seats, and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera.

Standard active safety from the S up includes auto emergency braking (AEB) with forward collision warning, lane keep assist (LKAS), driver attention alert (DAA) and high-beam assist.

The S is available as a six-speed manual at $28,990 or as a six-speed automatic at $29,990. It can also be had as a diesel (automatic-only) at $36,990.

Stepping up to the SX (previously known as the Si) ups the spec to 18-inchy alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with DAB+ digital radio support, built-in sat-nav and an eight-speaker premium JBL audio system. The SX also gains front parking sensors on automatic variants only.

The SX is available as a six-speed manual at $31,490, a six-speed auto at $32,490, or as a diesel (auto-only) at $39,490.

Second-from the top is the SX Plus grade (previously known as the SLi). The auto-only SX Plus adds leather seat trim, upgraded chrome and gloss exterior highlights, privacy glass for the rear windows, push-start, keyless entry, an electronic parking brake, an upgraded 4.2-inch colour screen in the dash cluster, and, for the first time, an automatic powered tailgate.

For the first time an automated tailgate is available on a mid-grade Sportage.

The SX Plus is available as a six-speed auto petrol at $39,490 or as an eight-speed auto diesel at $44,490.

Finally, the top-spec GT Line gains the option of a more powerful 2.4-litre petrol engine, 19-inch alloy wheels, an automatic parking suite, full LED auto-levelling headlights, LED fog lights, satin silver design touches, a sports bodykit with chrome exhaust tips, a panoramic sunroof, a flat-bottomed sports steering wheel and a wireless phone charging bay.

The GT-Line also upgrades the active safety suite to include blind-spot monitoring (BSM), rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA), lane change assist and active cruise control.

The GT-Line scores a sportier interior and exterior treatment.

The GT-Line can be had as a 2.4-litre petrol auto at $46,490 or as a 2.0-litre turbo diesel auto at $49,490.

The Sportage continues to be covered by Kia’s seven-year unlimited kilometre warranty promise and matching capped-price servicing scheme. Plus, if you service at an authorised dealership Kia will back the Sportage with up to eight years of roadside assist.
