Hyundai Australia prolongs warranty

Hyundai Motor Company will extend its new-vehicle warranty by up to three months on passenger cars amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The goodwill gesture encompasses 1.21 million passenger vehicles around the world, and includes 27,000 cars in Australia, that have their original warranties expiring between March 1, 2020 and May 30 of the same year.

The warranty extension will last until the end of May 2020, and has been implemented for customers concerned about heading to a servicing centre during the lockdown period.

However, the warranty extension does not include commercial vehicles such as the iLoad van.

For reference, Hyundai – and many other dealerships – remain open in Australia to carry out crucial vehicle maintenance procedures, and have implemented stricter cleaning processes to ensure customers cars are returned disinfected.

Hyundai boss Jun Heo said: “We appreciate that many of our customers may have limited access to vehicle servicing during these extraordinary times.

“We wish to set their minds at ease regarding eligibility for warranty repairs and related services in the coming months,” he said.

“Not only do we care about our customers’ health and safety, we aim to remove the added stress where customers are unable to have repairs completed before their vehicle’s warranty expires.”

Hyundai Australia will contact affected customers soon.

As a reminder, all new Hyundai passenger vehicles sold come with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty for private use, while commercial applications are covered over the same time period, but vary on distance travelled depending on model.

The iLoad van comes with a five-year/160,000km warranty regardless of private or commercial use.

However, the industry-leading warranty is still offered by Kia Australia, who launched its seven-year/unlimited kilometre aftersales scheme in 2014.
