Aussie company Trakka unveils new adventure-ready vans

Australian company Trakka has unveiled its latest range of van-based motorhomes.

Trakka, a family-owned and -run boutique business established in Sydney in 1973, specialises in the Australian design and conversion of motorhomes, campervans and special-purpose vehicles.

The Akuna range is based on the latest model Volkswagen Crafter van, arriving with new advanced safety and comfort features, updated multimedia system, twin-turbo-diesel engine (130kW/410Nm) and an eight-speed automatic transmission

Akuna highlights include high-tech fibreglass reinforced thermoplastic composite material, adventure-ready vinyl rubber-backed floor covering, 90L Dometic fridge/freezer, maximum storage overhead lockers, integrated 140L fresh- and 80L grey-water tanks built across the vehicle for more even weight distribution, and switch-operated electronic grey-water dump valve.

Available in mid- and long wheelbases and three different layouts, “the Akuna has perfectly rounded out Trakka’s well-established Torino and Jabiru van-based motorhome offering”, said Trakka’s Alex Berry.

The three variants of this two-wheel drive tourer are: the mid wheelbase Akuna A2M; the long wheelbase A2; and the long wheelbase Akuna A4.

The six-metre-long Akuna A2M features permanent standing height, full bathroom module (with electric stow-away sliding toilet to provide extra showering space) and more defined separate sleeping/cooking/living areas. GVM is 3550kg and the Akuna A2M costs from $150,000 drive-away.

The long wheelbase A2 has a two-seater layout with front swivel seats, where the front cab becomes a sitting/dining area. The van length allows for long north/south single beds which convert to a large double bed. This 6.84m-long tourer has a 4100kg GVM and is priced from $155,000.

The long wheelbase Akuna A4 has a four-seat layout (all seatbelts are lap sash) with front seats that swivel to meet a double lounge. This area forms a more formal and spacious front lounge, dining or entertaining area. The A4’s permanent east/west double bed, with external fibreglass pods on the driver and passenger sides, provides even more bed length. This 6.84m-long tourer has a 4100kg GVM and is priced from $160,000.

The range’s standard single-fuel-source pack includes a diesel-fuelled cooktop, and combined diesel-fuelled water and ducted room heater. It also has a 200Ah Lithium house battery, 200W solar charging system, 240V lithium charger, DC2DC and solar five-stage lithium charger, closed-cell foam thermal insulation, and Trakka’s concertina-style sliding side and rear insect screen doors.

The Trakka electronic control panel includes a monitoring system with digital touch-screen, aimed at making it easier to keep track of water tank levels, battery condition and available capacity in percentage, power input and power output.
