Toyota new model launches under a cloud: 2021 Land Cruiser 300 Series in danger?

Toyota Motor Corporation says its new model launch plans could well be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company announced its 2019-20 financial results while predicting a 22 per cent slump in sales over the 2020-21 period, and Toyota chief financial officer Kenta Kon said the brand is expecting some form of impact on future product plans, too.

“Regarding new model launch plans and if there is a change or not with COVID-19 – when we have looked in the future new model plans, there will be some projects that will be delayed compared to the original plans,” said Mr Kon.

“For the new model launches, we are going to take this timing as an opportunity and review what we have done in the past as business as usual,” he said.

That could mean that plans for the new-generation LandCruiser 300 Series may be impacted, but Mr Kon indicated that the company doesn’t see any major changes to its new model rollout.
