New Subaru Impreza 2020 pricing and specs detailed: All-wheel-drive sedan and hatch now slicker and safer

Subaru Australia has launched its facelifted Impreza sedan and hatch alongside hybrid versions of the XV and Forester.

The facelifted Impreza range was first unveiled in August last year in its home market of Japan, wearing a new face to reflect the brand’s new-generation Outback, which is available overseas.

The changes from the outside include a redesign of the grille, front bumper and light fittings, as well as a new set of alloy wheels on every variant. The hatch gains new “smoked finish” tail-light clusters.

The changes to the range are a little more than skin deep, with the Impreza gaining a revised suspension tune, “SI-Drive” drive modes, and auto-door locking as standard across the range.

The base 2.0i has been upgraded to include the full safety suite that’s available on the rest of the range, with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a front-view camera, and reverse autonomous emergency braking (AEB). All Imprezas feature forward AEB and lane-keep assist.

There are only minor aesthetic updates to the Impreza range, but base safety has improved alongside a lower price.

Meanwhile, the top-spec 2.0i-S gains new LED headlights, power-folding and -dipping side mirrors, front- and side-view camera, an electric driver’s seat with memory, multi-function display and piano-black interior trims.

Upgraded cloth trims are added to variants which normally wear them, and the door cards have had their materials altered.

Prices have dropped slightly across the range. The Impreza is now cheaper than before in both hatch and sedan guise. See the table below for the full pricing layout.

The Impreza continues to be available in the same four variants 2.0i, 2.0i-L, 2.0i-Premium, and 2.0i-S across both sedan and hatch body styles.

The Impreza receives only minor updates to its interior.

While the Impreza has seen the introduction of a smaller 1.6-litre engine and front-wheel-drive versions for the Japanese market, this combination has been ruled out for an Australian introduction.

The brand’s representatives would also not comment on the hybrid “e-Boxer” Impreza variant teased overseas, saying there is not yet a timeline for the hybrid Impreza’s launch for the Australian market.

The Impreza continues on with just one, unchanged drivetrain in Australia, a 2.0-litre 115kW/196Nm petrol engine driving all four wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
